Lent Event 2026: 40 Days of Faith-Filled Action

As the Christian season of Lent begins today, congregations and faith communities are being invited to take part in the annual Lent Event 2026, a nationwide call to prayer, reflection and practical commitment to justice and creation care. Lent, a 40-day period of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter traditionally begins on Ash Wednesday and runs through to early April this year.

Organised by UnitingWorld, the Lent Event campaign invites individuals, churches and groups to embrace a season of intentional discipleship, guided by stories of communities around the world affected by poverty and climate change. The event’s initiative encourages participants to go beyond personal sacrifice by engaging in “40 days of faith-filled action for God’s creation.”

At its core, the Lent Event aims to deepen faith and inspire transformative practices that reflect Christian commitments to justice, compassion and stewardship. Throughout the campaign, weekly stories and prayers are shared to inspire collective reflection, while resources and practical action ideas are available to help participants take up meaningful challenges.

A central feature of the 2026 program is the “40 For The Future” challenge, which invites participants to commit to a 40-day personal or group action such as changing habits around consumption, energy use or lifestyle with the option of fundraising to support climate-resilient projects led by partner communities in the Pacific, Asia and Africa.

Church leaders and organisers emphasise that the event is more than a seasonal observance, it is a collective movement of discipleship that connects spiritual reflection with tangible acts of service and advocacy.
